Research in Action

Our faculty are highly recognized for their research initiatives in a diverse range of areas both in the laboratory and in the field.

Dr. Tony Maurelli, Professor, and Post-Doctoral Research Assistant, Natasha Weatherspoon, identify bacterial species in his laboratory.

Our department is comprised of faculty and staff with a wide variety of research backgrounds and expertise that encompass everything from toxicology to food and nutritional security. We have multiple domestic and international on-going initiatives and collaborate extensively with other University of Florida researchers and international partners. Our commitment to finding innovative solutions to current and emerging health issues means that our students have the opportunity to engage in real-world research while completing their degree program.

Our research programs span a broad range of transdisciplinary emphasis areas that allow our faculty and students to focus on making an impact on a variety of health issues. These areas reflect current and emerging health issues such as food insecurity, climate change, pollution, infectious disease and more that need to be addressed by public health professionals.
